Our Story
Founded in 2017, Tandem Innovation Group started with the understanding that entrepreneurs need more than finance & accounting support – they need co-creators and community.
Its two founding consultants, Tania Lo and Sean Hodgins, each had thriving consulting practices supporting entrepreneurs in their finance journeys, but they were frustrated. They envisioned a new way of collaborating – one that addressed their own capacity constraints while also creating a peer/mentor learning space for new consultants. Inherently community-oriented, they found others who shared their vision and built a curated network of likeminded practitioners who could offer wraparound support to emerging business leaders.
It was a beautiful place for Tandem’s journey to begin. With a focus on entrepreneurship and collaboration, Tandem attracted a network of independent consultants – CFOs, Bookkeepers, People & Ops leaders, Digital Specialists and others – seeking both autonomy and community while doing meaningful work with impactful companies. By 2024, there were more than 400 members in the network servicing more than # businesses.
In 2024, Renee Mitchell stepped into a co-CEO role with Tania Lo and together they initiated a new era for Tandem.
With a focus on supporting scaling purpose-driven businesses and not-for-profits, Tandem has shifted away from a networked model of service delivery to one that sees a dedicated, in-house team working closely with SME leaders in diverse industries to build more sustainable, resilient organizations by transforming their operations and teams to be more effective and inclusive for enduring, regenerative impact.
The name Tandem comes from rowing.
Rowing alone is tough; doing it together is easier, more enjoyable, and more powerful. At Tandem, we believe that with the right people and mindset collaboration can transform us.

Lorraine Telesford
Residing on Mississaugas of the Credit, Anishnabeg, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee and Wendat lands
Lorraine Telesford, CB, CBA, PMP, is a fractional CFO & Controller based in Toronto. With over thirty years of work experience, providing finance and accounting services for small businesses and not-for-profit agencies, Lorraine is passionate about uplifting local communities through her wealth of expertise.
In 2017, Lorraine came 4th in the Southern Ontario Association of Racing, Formula Femme, 600cc Motorcycle Race at Grand Bend.
“During the pandemic, Tandem was a lifeline for me. I got so used to working by myself that I forgot that I needed community, and now that I have it I can’t live without it.”

Amal Alhuwayshil
Residing on Algonquin Anishnaabeg lands
Besides serving as People & Culture Manager, Amal is an intersectional feminist, writer, speaker, avid reader, dancer, artist, healer, space holder, community lover, and cultivator of connection.
In an official role, Amal has spent the past four years working on systemic issues, supporting teams and organizations to build and nourish their diverse teams and create a culture of psychological safety, inclusion, and belonging. She has also offered transformative inner work coaching to over 100 women and non-binary leaders, helping them unlock their full potential for power, pleasure, and impact.
What keeps Amal grounded is gathering and dreaming around the dinner table and cooking Saudi food.

Sabrina Banger
Residing on Halkomelem lands
Sabrina Banger is an accountant based in New Westminster, BC. With over 4 years of experience using software programs like QBO, Sabrina has worked with clients in a wide range of industries including retail, entertainment, and manufacturing.
In her spare time, Sabrina enjoys traveling, beaches, sand, the ocean, and just being warm.

Andrea Pember
Residing on The Blackfoot Confederacy, Tsuut’ina, îethka Nakoda Nations and Otipemisiwak Métis lands
Based in Calgary, Andrea Pember, CPA, CA is a Fractional CFO with over 13 years experience. Andrea is an accomplished financial professional with experience leading finance teams, financial planning, system implementation, full cycle accounting and cash flow management in both Canada and Australia.
Outside of work, Andrea is an avid skier and mountain biking enthusiast.

Stefan Aleksander
Residing on Yucateca Mayan lands
Stefan Aleksander is an accountant with over 6 years of experience, he specializes in transitioning businesses to paperless, cloud-based accounting solutions.
Stefan came to Tandem after stints running food businesses, working as a courier and at a credit union.
“One of the biggest benefits is getting to work with a lot of different companies. I work with close to a dozen clients and they’re all different. Personally, I get bored easily so having different clients with variety is helpful.”

Jessica Jack
Residing on Syilx / Okanagan lands
Jessica is a mother of two children, aged 16 and 5, and joined Tandem as our Administrative Assistant after completing a training program with Deva Training & Staffing Solutions.
In her personal life, Jessica stays grounded by spending time with her family, taking her dog Nala for walks and cooking new dishes.

Alex Nguyen
Residing on Stó:lō, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam lands
Alex is a son, brother, nephew, grandson, partner, friend, collaborator, continuous learner and HR Coordinator. A recent BCIT alumni, graduating with a BBA and a diploma in HR Management, Alex came to Tandem through BCIT’s 2024 Spring Career Fair.
Alex is energized through movement and exercise. In his spare time, he enjoys working out and taking hip-hop dance classes.
